A Little Bit of History:
Kiwi Air Scenic was conceived in early 2004 and first went online on 9th July that same year. The intention was to create a small, friendly VA running short ‘hops’ throughout New Zealand in order to explore some of most the unique and diverse flying environments to be found anywhere in the world.
This humble beginning worked well for a time but the demand for longer routes and larger airframes grew until, in order to survive, the airline split into two divisions:
Kiwi Air – was our route-based regional and international airline.
Kiwi Air Scenic – was the VFR based charter division.
On May 1, 2006, Kiwi Air underwent its first major change, moving from what was only supposed to be a ‘temporary’ home to a new dedicated site capable of supporting databases and the entire fleet in one place. This worked well but was limited by its use of MSAccess databases and ASP driven pages.
For most of 2006 we were proud to be part of the 'Endeavour Alliance', a codeshare partnership with Pacifique Atlantic Virtual Airline that allowed our pilots to fly an even greater range of aircraft and routes across most of the globe. This partnership ended in early 2007 with the sad demise of PAVA.
The Present:
A change in server technology created unrepairable errors in the exising site and Kiwi Air Virtual was forced to move home again. As part of this move the decision was made to make major changes to the site to incorporate the latest PHP and MySQL technology. With the purchase of the VABase scripts we are now able to incorporate a fully interactive roster, crew department and PIREP system in the VA for the first time ever. A rebuild of the route system is also underway with old, unrealistic routes being deleted and a new, believable flight schedule being implemented.
The Future:
Things have never looked better for Kiwi Air pilots…
Our domestic and international route systems now offer over 200 different flights in more than a dozen different airframes. Kiwi Air pilots can explore the mountains and fjords of the South Island in a Cessna 182s Skylane, then take a Boeing 737-700 up to Auckland before crossing the Pacific Ocean in of our modern 747-400ER’s.
New Pilots:
Kiwi Air Virtual has never closed it's doors to new pilot applications. If you think you would like to be a part of this community use the link below to view more information and make your application...
